Return to 3rd Street Streetscape

Project Information

The purpose of this project is to continue the City of Hobart’s efforts focusing on downtown revitalization by constructing improvements to pedestrian amenities, way finding, and infrastructure. The proposed improvements aim to increase both the physical and visual enjoyment of all those who frequent downtown Hobart as well as those passing through along the heavily traveled State Road 51 corridor. These improvements are necessary to position the City of Hobart in a manner that creates a downtown area that is functional and attractive for new businesses to locate and existing businesses to maintain their customers. It is the City’s objective to tie together the downtown public areas with the existing public areas using similar design elements so that the entire outdoor area in the downtown is visually and functionally cohesive.

Streetscape and Improvements will extend along 3rd Street from the west side of the 3rd Street Bridge to Duck Creek and along Center Street from 2nd to 4th Street. The project will include:

  • Pavement reconstruction
  • Sanitary sewer main and lateral improvements
  • Improved storm water conveyance including new curb and gutters
  • Sidewalks with decorative pavers
  • ADA compliant curb ramps and crosswalks
  • Ornamental street lighting
  • Ornamental traffic signal at 3rd and Center Street
  • Planters, street trees, benches, trash receptacles, and bike racks
  • Gateways installed at the west and east ends of 3rd Street near Lake George and Duck Creek.
