The City of Hobart is planning to undertake an intersection improvement project funded in part by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The project is located at the intersection of 61st Avenue and Marcella Boulevard. Over the course of the last several of years the City has seen industrial growth in this area and the congestion and concern for safety has grown along with this influx of development. The purpose of this project is to reduce congestion and improve safety at the intersection of 61st Avenue and Marcella Boulevard by constructing a roundabout. The proposed roundabout will provide a better level of service than a traffic signal at this location. Additionally, roundabouts reduce the severity of crashes, particularly left-turn, head-on and angled crashes.
The project will include:
- Construction of a two lane roundabout
- Pavement reconstruction at the intersection
- Improved storm water conveyance including new curb and gutters
- Sidewalks along portions of the project
- ADA compliant curb ramps and crosswalks
- Street lighting
